SUMMARY:MACSC March Member Meeting
DESCRIPTION:TOPIC: Hazmat Hazards in Constructions \nFor many workers\, construction projects begin when the shovel contacts the soil.  However\, before this happens\, preliminary investigations are typically conducted to ascertain previous land use and potential environmental concerns which could impact workers and the public at large. This is completed by the owner as part of his due diligence.  This presentation will explore tools used by environmental professionals to evaluate existing recognized environmental conditions from both a desktop review and site visit to a second phase of intrusive measures used to quantify potential contaminants.  Contractors need this information to stay away from recognized environmental conditions (REC) and work with the owner to ascertain potential delays or areas of the property off limits to development.   Contractor/owner planning and execution of the plan is important to minimize exposure and keep workers safe.  In addition\, this presentation briefly spotlights hazardous materials utilized during the work day to fuel\, lubricate\, weld\, paint or stain equipment and their potential impacts to your body and environment. In addition\, we’ll discuss hazardous wastes as outlined by OSHA\, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and HAZWOPER regulations found in 29 CFR 1910 1200.  Finally\, we will discuss personal protection equipment (PPE) employed to keep you safe from these chemical mixtures or wastes. \n  \nKenneth Gollon’s Bio: \nWith over 38 years of Environmental\, Health\, and Safety (EHS) experience and training\, Ken has worked on various projects covering a wide expanse of Construction and General industries.  These included aerospace\, construction\, excavation\, oil and gas\, manufacturing\, pharmaceutical R&D\, and HAZWOPER / Superfund sites.  He has also worked on legacy refinery remediation projects\, as well as hazard and solid waste facilities sites. He is also experienced with risk management\, industrial hygiene\, site and environmental auditing/investigations\, soil\, surface and ground water evaluation\, environmental drilling\, and working alongside OSHA\, EPA\, State\, and local safety / environmental regulatory agencies.  Ken is an OSHA authorized trainer for 10 and 30 hour construction courses as per Outreach Training Program requirements.  Currently Ken is assigned to Merck Pharmaceutical’s GES Safety Group overseeing construction safety (and potential EHS issues at various construction projects across the 400 acre site.  He has the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and Construction Health and Safety Technician credentials \n  \nFriday\, March 8\, 2024                                       The Cynwyd Club \n11:30 AM – 1:30 PM                                             332 Trevor Lane\nLunch followed with MACSC business                Bala Cynwyd\, Pa 19004\nupdates\, then presentation \nGuest Fee is $45 per person.
