SUMMARY:Understanding Heat Stress and How to Stay Safe
DESCRIPTION:Register Today at: \nhttps://1105tech.com/portal/wts/uc%5EcmQeceBjqecfCoq%7C728DejcgA3ebAB%7EnOB%7CzYg3d \n  \nOverview: \nWith a changing climate\, the public\, especially those exposed to occupational heat\, are facing increased risk for heat injury and illness.  This presentation will educate environmental public health professionals on the physiological responses of workers exposed to heat and about the dangers\, causes\, and mitigation of heat stress while on the job. \n  \nWorking in hot environments is often unavoidable\, however\, this seminar will educate attendees about the warning signs and strategies to prevent serious heat related injuries or illness to keep workers safe while performing their jobs.  This will involve a discussion about the physiological responses to heat\, acclimatization to heat\, and heat injury and illness.  In addition\, techniques for the measurement of thermal stress from the environment and from metabolic sources will be discussed.  There will also be a discussion about the technologies used to limit heat exposure. \nSpeaker: \nDr. W. Jon Williams is currently a Senior Research Physiologist in the Research Branch of the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL)/NIOSH/CDC.  Dr. Williams has 34 years of experience in human experimental physiology beginning with a National Academies/National Research Council Resident Research Associateship (post-doc) at the NASA Johnson Space Center in the Medical Sciences Division\, as a NASA contractor (Wyle Life Sciences) as a Senior Research Scientist. In 2003\, Dr. Williams was recruited to the NPPTL to establish a human physiological research capability. Dr. Williams also established a biochemistry lab and a thermos-physiology lab including a human rated environmental chamber to support human research in extreme environments.  He has conducted human thermal research at the NPPTL for ~21 years. \nSponsored by Vector Solutions\, Epicore Biosystems\, Zappos at Work\, SlateSafety \nDate: Thursday –  March 21\, 2024 \nRegister Today at: \nhttps://1105tech.com/portal/wts/uc%5EcmQeceBjqecfCoq%7C729eejcgA3ebAB%7EnOB%7CzYg3d \n————————————— \nCan’t make the live event? \nRegister now and view this presentation on-demand after March 21st at no cost\, at your convenience. \nBy attending this webinar\, you may be eligible to earn CEUs.
