SUMMARY:MACSC July Meeting: Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) plan
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Robert C. Albrecht\, Executive EHS Manager for Signature Safety\, LLC for the Midatlantic region. \nInfection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) plan\, is a set of guidelines and practices that help reduce the risk of infection transmission during construction or renovation projects in healthcare settings . The goal of an ICRA plan is to protect the health of patients\, visitors\, and staff by identifying and controlling the effects of construction or renovation activities on air and water quality. A newer approach is called a Pre-Construction Infection Control Assessment (PICRA) and ICRA 2.0\, both are very similar with some nuances that will briefly be discussed in the body of content. \nThe presentation will discuss the elements of a traditional ICRA plan that involves the regulatory requirements and the following steps: \n\nIdentify risk groups: Determine which patient groups are at risk based on construction activities\nDetermine precautions: Decide on the appropriate class of precautions to take\nEstablish incident reporting: Create a process for reporting any incidents\nAnalyze potential contaminants: Consider every possible source of dust or construction contaminant that could spread through the facility\nImplement controls: Design and put in place measures to reduce health risks\n\nPresenters Bio: Robert Albrecht is a seasoned Occupational Safety and Health professional with over 34 years of experience that includes industrial hygiene\, large civil construction projects\, CSHO for a State OSHA program and over 10 years working in healthcare systems. He is the Executive EHS Manager for Signature Safety\, LLC for the Midatlantic region. During his employment for General Contractors Robert worked on $45 to $900 million projects as Area Safety Manager and Site Safety and Health Officer. \nAfter moving into the healthcare sector while at Johns Hopkins\, his skills were applied for managing all ICRA design\, review and implementing in ambulatory and non-ambulatory healthcare settings. Robert then became the director of Life Safety for the largest hospital in Washington DC and was quickly placed as the acting Assistant Vice President of Support Services. This position included managing all occupational safety and health\, ICRA\, life safety\, hazardous wastes\, environmental services and training for over 4\,000 staff. \nRobert presently holds a Certified Healthcare Environmental Management certification\, an AAS in Occupational Safety and Health Technology from a NIOSH accredited program\, a BS in Legal Studies with a minor in Environmental Occupational Safety and Health from the University of Maryland University College. \n\n\n \n \n MACSC Monthly Meeting RSVP\n \n \n FacebookThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged. Will you be attending?(Required)\n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No\n Company(Required)Name(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n Cell Phone NumberEmail(Required)\n \n I will be brining a guest and his or her name(s) is: Guest Fee is $45 per personEmail\n \n Select number of guest. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, July 29th at 1:00 p.m. Eastern (1 hour) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNABTU-CPWR Summer Heat Webinar \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConstruction workers\, who often work outdoors in direct sunlight or in hot\, enclosed spaces\, are at risk for heat-related illnesses and\, in severe cases\, death. Rising global temperatures in recent decades increase that risk. However\, these illnesses and deaths are preventable. North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) is working with its affiliates\, contractors\, and other industry stakeholders across the country to prevent heat-related illness and injury through better pre-job and pre-task planning and training. As part of this effort\, NABTU and CPWR invited two construction labor representatives and two contractor representatives to share their perspectives on how to beat the heat while still getting the job done.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModerator: \n\nChris Trahan Cain\, CIH\, Executive Director\, CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training\n\nPanelists: \n\nShannon Jones\, Tri-Fund Coordinator\, Laborers’ Health and Safety Fund of North America (LHSFNA)\nKen Seal\, Safety and Health Director\, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT)\nShane Eckerman\, Executive Director of Safety\, CSI Electrical Contractors\, Inc.\nAaron Knight\, OHST\, EMT-B\, President\, NMC Companies\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to register and submit questions in advance \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLive attendance is capped at 1\,000 people; however\, the webinars will be recorded and posted to CPWR’s YouTube channel for anyone who cannot attend.

SUMMARY:Executive Q&A: Understanding NFPA 70B and Its Impact on Electrical Maintenance Safety
DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesday\, August 19\, 2025 at 2:00pm ET – 1:00pm CT – 11:00am PT \nWith the 2023 edition of NFPA 70B now a standard rather than a recommended practice\, workplace safety managers are under growing pressure to understand what that shift means for their operations. Unlike NFPA 70E—which focuses on protecting workers from electrical hazards through safe work practices—NFPA 70B is centered on maintaining electrical systems to prevent those hazards from arising in the first place. The two standards are complementary\, and together they form a more complete approach to electrical safety. \nIn this live Q&A-style session\, NFPA electrical safety expert Derek Vigstol returns to help safety managers navigate the practical impact of NFPA 70B. Whether you’re unsure how this standard differs from NFPA 70E\, curious about what counts as a compliant maintenance program\, or looking for guidance on implementation\, this webinar is your opportunity to ask questions and get clear\, actionable answers. \nRegister for this free webinar! \nDATE: Tuesday\, August 19\, 2025\nTIME: 2:00pm ET \nThis free webinar is being hosted by Occupational Health & Safety and not by a MACSC member \nMore info and registration

SUMMARY:How AI Can Make Workplace Incident Management & Hazard Assessment Smarter (and Safer!)
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday September 18\, 2025 at 2:00pm ET – 1:00pm CT – 11:00am PT \nData from occupational health and safety research organizations like the National Safety Council (NSC) and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show that employers continue to make steady progress toward reducing minor workplace injury types. Unfortunately\, serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs) have remained essentially unchanged or have even risen in recent years. \nAs a result\, EHS leaders are beginning to rethink how they track injury and illness metrics—moving away from a reliance on traditional lagging indicators (TRIR\, DART rates\, etc.) and looking to leading indicators like potential for serious injury or fatality (PSIF) to help identify risks earlier and more accurately. \nEven with detailed leading indicators like PSIF in our toolkit\, we still need to translate that data into actions. That’s where Job Safety Analysis (JSA) comes in. JSA provides a systematic method to assess and control hazards before work begins. By streamlining and standardizing the risk assessment and controls prescribed in our JSAs\, employers take a significant step toward protecting workers. \nIn this session\, we’ll explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can unlock your incident and near-miss data to reveal trends\, root causes\, and risks to help safety teams pinpoint\, track\, and prevent SIFs. We’ll also show you how AI tools can enhance your JSAs by uncovering hidden risks\, standardizing hazard identification\, and suggesting better controls—giving you a smarter\, more proactive way to prevent SIFs before they happen. \nWhether you’re a safety leader\, EHS manager\, or just curious about AI\, this session will give you real-world use cases for how AI is revolutionizing EHS to help build a safer workplace for all. \nTopics covered include: \n\nSerious occupational injury & fatality trends\nShifting from lagging (TRIR\, DART\, etc.) to leading incident metrics (PSIF)\nJob safety analysis (JSA) best practices\, and how leading incident metrics (i.e.\, PSIF) contribute to improved hazard identification and control effectiveness\nHow AI is being applied to enhance both PSIF and JSA for more effective hazard control\nAudience Q&A\n\nRegister here for this free webinar!\nDATE: Thursday September 18\, 2025\nTIME: 2:00PM ET – 1:00PM CT – 11:00AM PT \n

SUMMARY:Construction Noise & Hearing Loss: Links to Mortality and Dementia: CPWR free webinar
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 13th at 1:00 p.m. Eastern (1 hr.) \nConstruction Noise & Hearing Loss: Links to Mortality and Dementia \nHalf of all construction workers experience job-related hearing problems. According to the new edition of CPWR’s Construction Chart Book\, construction workers were 1.7 times more likely to report poor hearing than those not in the industry. \nDespite decades of awareness\, noise-induced hearing loss remains a serious and under-addressed issue. New research from CPWR’s Building Trades National Medical Screening (BTMed) program\, based on health screenings of over 20\,000 construction workers\, reveals a troubling connection: hearing loss is not only widespread in our industry\, but it’s also linked to increased risks of mortality and dementia. \nJoin us for a webinar that explores these findings and describes CPWR’s free training and prevention resources to protect workers from jobsite-related hearing loss. \nModerator:\n• Chris Trahan Cain\, CIH\, Executive Director\, CPWR \nPanelists:\n• Rick Rinehart\, ScD\, Deputy Director\, CPWR and Principal Investigator\, Building Trades Medical Screening Program (BTMed)\n• John Dement\, PhD\, CIH\, Professor Emeritus\, Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine\, Duke University Medical Center\, and Industrial Hygienist and Epidemiologist\, BTMed\n• Marianne Cloeren\, MD\, MPH\, Associate Professor\, University of Maryland School of Medicine\, and Medical Director\, BTMed\n• Jessica Bunting\, MPH\, Research to Practice Director\, CPWR \nClick here to register and submit questions for our panelists in advance. \n
