SUMMARY:MACSC March Member Meeting
DESCRIPTION:TOPIC: Hazmat Hazards in Constructions \nFor many workers\, construction projects begin when the shovel contacts the soil.  However\, before this happens\, preliminary investigations are typically conducted to ascertain previous land use and potential environmental concerns which could impact workers and the public at large. This is completed by the owner as part of his due diligence.  This presentation will explore tools used by environmental professionals to evaluate existing recognized environmental conditions from both a desktop review and site visit to a second phase of intrusive measures used to quantify potential contaminants.  Contractors need this information to stay away from recognized environmental conditions (REC) and work with the owner to ascertain potential delays or areas of the property off limits to development.   Contractor/owner planning and execution of the plan is important to minimize exposure and keep workers safe.  In addition\, this presentation briefly spotlights hazardous materials utilized during the work day to fuel\, lubricate\, weld\, paint or stain equipment and their potential impacts to your body and environment. In addition\, we’ll discuss hazardous wastes as outlined by OSHA\, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and HAZWOPER regulations found in 29 CFR 1910 1200.  Finally\, we will discuss personal protection equipment (PPE) employed to keep you safe from these chemical mixtures or wastes. \n  \nKenneth Gollon’s Bio: \nWith over 38 years of Environmental\, Health\, and Safety (EHS) experience and training\, Ken has worked on various projects covering a wide expanse of Construction and General industries.  These included aerospace\, construction\, excavation\, oil and gas\, manufacturing\, pharmaceutical R&D\, and HAZWOPER / Superfund sites.  He has also worked on legacy refinery remediation projects\, as well as hazard and solid waste facilities sites. He is also experienced with risk management\, industrial hygiene\, site and environmental auditing/investigations\, soil\, surface and ground water evaluation\, environmental drilling\, and working alongside OSHA\, EPA\, State\, and local safety / environmental regulatory agencies.  Ken is an OSHA authorized trainer for 10 and 30 hour construction courses as per Outreach Training Program requirements.  Currently Ken is assigned to Merck Pharmaceutical’s GES Safety Group overseeing construction safety (and potential EHS issues at various construction projects across the 400 acre site.  He has the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and Construction Health and Safety Technician credentials \n  \nFriday\, March 8\, 2024                                       The Cynwyd Club \n11:30 AM – 1:30 PM                                             332 Trevor Lane\nLunch followed with MACSC business                Bala Cynwyd\, Pa 19004\nupdates\, then presentation \nGuest Fee is $45 per person. SUMMARY:Respiratory Protection During Disaster Response
DESCRIPTION:Hazard and Risk Assessment\, Respiratory Protection During Disaster Response and Cleanup \nOverview: \n“When disaster strikes\, confusion and indecision often take place when we React instead of Proact”  We need to ask what my agency’s capabilities are during the first 100 hours of a disaster. Regulatory compliance needs to be in practice before the disaster occurs to be able to safeguard your employee’s safety and health. It is hard to play catch up when the incident is happening all around you. \nDisaster risk assessments include: the identification of hazards; a review of the safety and health hazards workers may encounter and reassess if conditions change. We then list responder responsibilities\,  Fire\, Police\, EMS\, and Public Works. Facilities Services and Public Works were officially added as First Responders in 2005 by the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). They have responsibility under the National Response Framework’s Emergency Support Functions (ESFs)(3) to provide support\, resources\, program implementation\, and services that are needed to save lives\, protect property and the environment\, restore essential services. \nThis webinar will discuss site safety\, including respiratory risks\, how to select and safely use appropriate respiratory protection \, PPE\, and decontamination procedures. \nSpeaker: \nSponsored by Honeywell\, Zappos at Work \nRegister Today at: \nhttps://1105tech.com/portal/wts/uc%5EcmQecevyqecfw0a%7C0rhqe%7Ctr0-%5BbAB%7EnOB%7CzYg3d

SUMMARY:Bloodborne Pathogens Terminology: Exposing the regulation one term at a time
DESCRIPTION:Although the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard has been around over three decades\, it continues to confuse employers. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030 is cited 300 to 500 times each year\, making it a frequently violated regulation in Part 1910. Perhaps the confusion and noncompliance may be found in the very text of the standard — legal terminology that has been with the standard from the very beginning. \nThe Bloodborne Pathogens Standard defines 28 terms in its definitions section\, so the use of these words and phrases may make this particular regulation a challenge for employers in general industry. \nThis webcast explores: \n\nDefinitions of the key terms in the standard\,\nOSHA’s intent\, and\nAnswers to your questions.\n\nThe better you understand the terminology\, the easier\, faster\, and less costly your compliance efforts may be. So don’t miss out. Register today! \nRegister for this free webinar!\nDATE: February 14\, 2024\nTIME: 2:00PM ET – 1:00PM CT – 11:00AM PT \n\nOH&S Sponsored Free Webinar \n\nRSVP Today

SUMMARY:CPWR Physicians’ Alerts: Short Guides to Talking to Your Medical Provider about Work-Related Hazards
DESCRIPTION:Medical providers may overlook work-related conditions construction workers face if they are not familiar with patients’ work history and exposure to hazards. To help workers get treatment they need\, CPWR has created a series of Physicians’ Alerts that facilitate direct conversations between patient and provider. The alerts cover topics such as contact dermatitis\, silica-related illnesses\, pain management (opioids)\, work-related asthma\, and the newest addition – pregnant worker safety and health. Each helps workers share knowledge about on-the-job hazards so their providers can better factor in information critical to providing proper diagnoses\, treatment\, and workplace accommodations. SUMMARY:How to be OSHA Compliant with Turnkey Fall Protection
DESCRIPTION:Overview: \nTo truly protect workers at height\, you need more than just some pieces of equipment. For fall protection solutions to be effective\, every aspect must be considered. Procuring comprehensive and compliant solutions\, however\, can be very schedule and resource intensive. By employing turnkey fall protection solutions – where all required services come from a single\, qualified provider – organizations can confidently select and implement the products\, systems and controls that protect workers and reduce employer liability. Using turnkey services to address fall hazards has proven to deliver more effective solutions and decreased implementation costs. This session outlines the core elements of turnkey fall protection\, its benefits to an organization\, and how to find and evaluate potential providers. \nSpeaker: \nNolan Miller\, PE\, CSP \nServing as a project manager and structural engineer with LJB Engineering\, Mr. Miller has more than 26 years of experience in both traditional structural engineering and safety consulting. With a thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards\, he specializes in fall prevention and protection programs and systems. For the past several years\, he has focused on providing fall protection system design and installation services for large organizations across the United States. \nSponsored by Kee Safety\, KPA\, Honeywell \nThere is not coat to attend this webinar. SUMMARY:The Hunan Side of Safety: Overcome Objections and Address Motivation to Increase Participation
DESCRIPTION:Getting employees more involved in safety requires understanding their motivations. To improve your safety culture\, you need worker buy-in and support. Many safety professionals have wondered\, “How do I increase employee participation?” While there is no simple answer\, employees will participate more if they want to — too often\, they simply choose not to participate. The question should be\, “What would make employees choose to participate more?” If employees and supervisors understand the value and benefits\, they’ll participate more. \nWe Will Share Ideas on Overcoming These Challenges Such As: \n\nShowing employees why safety matters by demonstrating how it impacts them personally.\nDealing with reluctant (often experienced) workers who push back against the rules.\nDealing with those (often younger) workers who think they’re invincible or won’t get hurt.\nTips for increasing participation\, such as identifying workers to be safety advocates and leading from the middle.\nTips for supervisors who must support safety or could undermine your efforts.\n\nAnd much more! \nSponsored by ISHN and J.J Keller Safety Managment Suite \nClick here to Register.
