SUMMARY:MACSC March Member Meeting
DESCRIPTION:TOPIC: Hazmat Hazards in Constructions \nFor many workers\, construction projects begin when the shovel contacts the soil.  However\, before this happens\, preliminary investigations are typically conducted to ascertain previous land use and potential environmental concerns which could impact workers and the public at large. This is completed by the owner as part of his due diligence.  This presentation will explore tools used by environmental professionals to evaluate existing recognized environmental conditions from both a desktop review and site visit to a second phase of intrusive measures used to quantify potential contaminants.  Contractors need this information to stay away from recognized environmental conditions (REC) and work with the owner to ascertain potential delays or areas of the property off limits to development.   Contractor/owner planning and execution of the plan is important to minimize exposure and keep workers safe.  In addition\, this presentation briefly spotlights hazardous materials utilized during the work day to fuel\, lubricate\, weld\, paint or stain equipment and their potential impacts to your body and environment. In addition\, we’ll discuss hazardous wastes as outlined by OSHA\, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and HAZWOPER regulations found in 29 CFR 1910 1200.  Finally\, we will discuss personal protection equipment (PPE) employed to keep you safe from these chemical mixtures or wastes. \n  \nKenneth Gollon’s Bio: \nWith over 38 years of Environmental\, Health\, and Safety (EHS) experience and training\, Ken has worked on various projects covering a wide expanse of Construction and General industries.  These included aerospace\, construction\, excavation\, oil and gas\, manufacturing\, pharmaceutical R&D\, and HAZWOPER / Superfund sites.  He has also worked on legacy refinery remediation projects\, as well as hazard and solid waste facilities sites. He is also experienced with risk management\, industrial hygiene\, site and environmental auditing/investigations\, soil\, surface and ground water evaluation\, environmental drilling\, and working alongside OSHA\, EPA\, State\, and local safety / environmental regulatory agencies.  Ken is an OSHA authorized trainer for 10 and 30 hour construction courses as per Outreach Training Program requirements.  Currently Ken is assigned to Merck Pharmaceutical’s GES Safety Group overseeing construction safety (and potential EHS issues at various construction projects across the 400 acre site.  He has the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and Construction Health and Safety Technician credentials \n  \nFriday\, March 8\, 2024                                       The Cynwyd Club \n11:30 AM – 1:30 PM                                             332 Trevor Lane\nLunch followed with MACSC business                Bala Cynwyd\, Pa 19004\nupdates\, then presentation \nGuest Fee is $45 per person. SUMMARY:Electrical Incident Investigation - Free Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The NFPA 70E requires that electrical incidents be investigated but the standard has not developed guidelines that direct electrical incident investigations. There are\, however\, several papers published on the topic and this webinar uses these resources to establish guidelines that could be used until the NFPA 70E standard provides more direction. \nClick here to read more and register. \nThis webinar is sponsored by OH&S and it’s partners.

SUMMARY:Understanding Heat Stress and How to Stay Safe
DESCRIPTION:Register Today at: \nhttps://1105tech.com/portal/wts/uc%5EcmQeceBjqecfCoq%7C728DejcgA3ebAB%7EnOB%7CzYg3d \n  \nOverview: \nWith a changing climate\, the public\, especially those exposed to occupational heat\, are facing increased risk for heat injury and illness.  This presentation will educate environmental public health professionals on the physiological responses of workers exposed to heat and about the dangers\, causes\, and mitigation of heat stress while on the job. \n  \nWorking in hot environments is often unavoidable\, however\, this seminar will educate attendees about the warning signs and strategies to prevent serious heat related injuries or illness to keep workers safe while performing their jobs.  This will involve a discussion about the physiological responses to heat\, acclimatization to heat\, and heat injury and illness.  In addition\, techniques for the measurement of thermal stress from the environment and from metabolic sources will be discussed.  There will also be a discussion about the technologies used to limit heat exposure. \nSpeaker: \nDr. W. Jon Williams is currently a Senior Research Physiologist in the Research Branch of the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL)/NIOSH/CDC.  Dr. Williams has 34 years of experience in human experimental physiology beginning with a National Academies/National Research Council Resident Research Associateship (post-doc) at the NASA Johnson Space Center in the Medical Sciences Division\, as a NASA contractor (Wyle Life Sciences) as a Senior Research Scientist. In 2003\, Dr. Williams was recruited to the NPPTL to establish a human physiological research capability. Dr. Williams also established a biochemistry lab and a thermos-physiology lab including a human rated environmental chamber to support human research in extreme environments.  He has conducted human thermal research at the NPPTL for ~21 years. \nSponsored by Vector Solutions\, Epicore Biosystems\, Zappos at Work\, SlateSafety \nDate: Thursday –  March 21\, 2024 \nRegister Today at: \nhttps://1105tech.com/portal/wts/uc%5EcmQeceBjqecfCoq%7C729eejcgA3ebAB%7EnOB%7CzYg3d \n————————————— \nCan’t make the live event? \nRegister now and view this presentation on-demand after March 21st at no cost\, at your convenience. \nBy attending this webinar\, you may be eligible to earn CEUs.
